1. What will my child's typical day be like?
Arrive at 9:00 - free play until 9:30
Circle time - 9:45
Activity time- art activity that goes along with the curriculum
Free play
Clean up - 10:30
Snack - that the parents provide (crackers and juice) - 10:45
Music and movement - story
Outside at 11:20
The children are dismissed at 11:45 from the playground
2. What is the curriculum at Sunshine Nursery School?
Our goal is for your children to have lots of successes, feel good about
themselves, interact with other children, and enjoy coming to school for
their first experience. There are concepts discussed like colors, shapes,
nursery rhymes, seasons, etc., but our primary mission is social and
emotional development!
3. What is the adult/student ratio?
In our three year old classrooms we have nine children with two teachers
and a parent help. The 4-year-old and Pre-K classrooms have three
teachers and a parent helper for about 15 children.
4. How many children attend each day?
Our school has a total of 121 children - but with two day, three day and four
day choices, and morning and afternoon options, we average 70 children
per day.
5. Are there snacks or lunch included?
During the regular day, the children share a snack that the parent helper
provides. These usually consist of simple crackers and juice. There is a
"Lunch Bunch" option for children who attend the morning classes, from
11:30 - 1:30 PM, during which the children eat a lunch that has been
provided from home. The charge is $10.00 per day. (we also have early
drop off at 7:45 with a $5.00 per day charge)
6. What are your dates and hours of operation?
Early drop off begins at 7:45, the Pre-K students arrive at 8:30, the
4-year-olds arrive at 8:45 and the 3-year-olds arrive at 9:00 AM. Morning
children may stay for lunch from the end of their regular day - Pre-K and
4-year-olds leave at 11:30, 3-Year-olds leave at 11:45 - with the afternoon
students here from 12:00 to 2:45. Sunshine is a part time program - ten
months per year, following the public school calendar closely. See

7. What is the tuition?

9. What type of enrichment programs do you offer?
In addition to the creative lessons children have in class, Sunshine also
contracts with the following providers - twice monthly with Music and
Movement with Miss Jane; once per month with Tufts Traveling Treasure
Trunk, Michelle's Menagerie, Curious Creatures and more. We do not
teach a language.
10. Do you have services for children who speak other languages?
Our children that have a primary language other that English seem to learn
by playing, and interacting with other children and adults. The children
learn very quickly!
11. Do you accept special needs children?
Sunshine welcomes special needs children who's individual needs are best
met within our regular classes. We strive to provide appropriate
environments for challenged students.
12. Are there opportunities for families to gather socially?
Sunshine sponsors several events each year so that families can get better
acquainted. There are school picnics and pot-luck suppers at the
beginning and end of the year, and the annual school fair. Additionally,
families are required to help with at least one fund-raiser per year to fulfill
the "coop" aspect of participation at Sunshine.
13. What does semi-cooperative mean?
A fully cooperative school has no administrative staff. All office work -
planning/scheduling, bookkeeping, reception, office support and newsletter
creation is provided by parent volunteers in addition to parent participation
in the classroom. Sunshine's semi-cooperative program provides all
peripheral support and only requires parents to help in the classroom a few
times per year and help with one fund-raising activity per year.
14. Does Sunshine have any scholarship program?
Sunshine is a member of Community Partnerships - families with two
parents working may apply for scholarship, if they qualify through
Communities United. We also have scholarships for needy families (there is
a scholarship form to fill out).
